Bob Greene’s suggestion of putting Elvis Presley’s face on Mt. Rushmore (Tempo, Feb. 20) is not only more palatable than the proposal of a Ronald Reagan likeness, but it makes more sense than even the four white fathers who currently stand vigil over the Black Hills. That’s because Elvis, at least, had some Native American heritage, so that his granite-etched visage would not be the affront to Lakota residents that Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt have always been.
