Mr. Mason obtained a bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University. From 1942 to 1945, Mr. Mason served as a chief petty officer in the Navy during World War II. A resident of Arlington Heights since 1968, Mr. Mason volunteered at the Lutheran Home for the Aged and Wheeling Township, where he volunteered his tax expertise to helping seniors during tax time. He also was an avid bicyclist who rode until he was 82, often from his home to Brookfield Zoo. He water-skied until he was 70. “He was a real character,” said his daughter, Audrey Berg. “He was always very active.” Other survivors include a brother, two sisters and three grandchildren.
