Frank Smutny, 94, of Downers Grove Township near Hinsdale, the founder of Smutny Dairy Co. in Chicago, died Monday, Feb. 26, in Hinsdale Hospital. Mr. Smutny, a native Chicagoan, started his dairy in 1923 in the city’s Pilsen neighborhood. He was 17 when the dairy opened and he sold the business in 1957 to Borden Dairy Co. He had been a DuPage County resident for the last 15 years and enjoyed fine food. Survivors include a son, Robert; a daughter, Arlene Rabitoy; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Coglianese Funeral Home, 7506 County Line Rd., Burr Ridge. Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with mass said at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8404 Cass Ave., Darien.
