This is in response to “State’s new test no holiday for many, Mandated exam raising a storm” (Page 1, April 22).

As a junior at Carl Sandburg High School, I feel that taking the ACT along with the Prairie State Achievement Exam on a weekday during normal school hours is a good idea. I think many students who wouldn’t normally consider going to college may now see that they are able to get in because they were forced to take the ACT and scored well.

Having the ACT test on a weekday puts much more emphasis on the test.

It shows students the school wants them to do well.

I find the days of preparing for the tests very helpful.

After all they do determine what college you will get into, and basically how successful you will be.
