Children with poetic flair can test out their skills at the Teen Poetry Cafe, sponsored by the Warren-Newport Public Library.
The program gives pupils in grades 6 to 8 everything they need for a real poetry reading: a stage, a microphone and a spotlight to read original poetry or poetry by other authors.
The program takes place in the McCullough Room, with cafe tables, refreshments and a stage backdrop featuring a bongo-playing beatnik.
Poetry from recent Teen Poetry Cafes is posted on the library’s Web site at www.wnpl.alibrary.com. Admission is free.
The next Teen Poetry Cafe will be held at 7 p.m. June 20. Register at the youth services desk, or call 847-244-5150.
