When I have gone to see the Cubs play at Sox Park, I am struck by the contrast between shrinelike Wrigley and canyonlike Comiskey. As a biased Cubs fan, I admit that I have been too hard on the South Side ballpark, so to make amends, I confess to the following:

– Parking is much better at Comiskey, but it really doesn’t matter because large crowds are very rare.

– Much has been said about the near-vertical upper deck at Comiskey. True enough, but in fairness, the lower-deck seats and bleachers are pretty good.

– Concessions are probably better and more accessible at Comiskey. Business is particularly brisk when the Sox are losing by nine runs.

– Organ music and giant video races help alleviate the pain often being recorded on the field.

– It is always nice to see a capacity crowd at Comiskey. Too bad that we won’t see another until the Sox next play the Cubs there in 2002.
