The Oriental Institute Museum has planned a series of documentaries, titled “Summer Sundays at the Movies — It’s Cool Inside!,” to help visitors better understand the artifacts in the museum’s collections and the civilizations that created them. All of the films are shown at 1:30 p.m.

On Sunday, “Under Wraps: An Autopsy of Three Egyptian Mummies” reveals the details of several embalmed bodies without removing their wrappings.

The next two films on the schedule are inspired by the TV-program “This Old House.” In “This Old Pyramid,” shown on July 1, an egyptologist and a professional stonemason build a pyramid to show how the ancient Egyptians might have done it. In “Obelisk,” on July 8, they apply their skills to erect an ancient obelisk.

The series continues with: “Saving the Sphinx,” July 15; “Out of the Fiery Furnace: From Stone to Bronze, ” July 22; “Out of the Fiery Furnace: From Swords to Ploughshares,” July 29; “Pyramids and Great Cities of the Pharaohs,” Aug. 5; “Iraq: Cradle of Civilization,” Aug 12; “Ancient Treasures of the Deep, Aug 26.”

The films are followed by guided tours of the museum, Breasted Hall, 1155 E. 58th St. Free. 773-702-9507.
