8:00 p.m.
Tired of choosing from a zillion outdoor street festivals? Skip them all and enjoy some indoor air-conditioned bowling. Marigold Bowl offers old-style neighborhood bowling, complete with do-it-yourself (i.e. creative) scoring. Sure, we can rack up points the old-fashioned way by knocking over pins, but we also consider points for originality, loudness of thud when the ball hits the lane, and creative dismount (828 W. Grace St., 773-935-8183). Parking: free (across Boradway); fabulously fashionable shoes: $2 per person; bowling: $2 per person per game
9:00
Marigold doesn’t have a snack bar (unless coaxing Combos out of the vending machine counts), so we have a pizza delivered from Franko’s (773-334-0606). Large pizza: $15; RC Cola: free
11:00
After a few games of thuds, gutters and the occasional reluctantly falling pin, we soothe our bowling wrists with a much-deserved cold beer and recount the Top 10 Classic Bowling Moments of the evening in the dark and groovy lounge behind the lanes. Beers for bowling legends: $6
Grand total: $37
