John Stokes Sr., age 78, of Chicago Heights, formerly of East Chicago Heights and Detroit, MI, beloved husband of Doris, nee Brooks; dearest father of Johnetta L. Stokes, Evelyn E. (Keith) Fields, Alyncia Clay, Ashanti Clay, Devin J. Stokes and John Stokes Jr.; loving grandfather of Kashawn Bennett, Chautai Stokes, Perry K. Williams Jr. and Aaron Stokes; fond nephew of Mattie Walton; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was employed by Ford Stamping Plant as an industrial truck mechanic for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Also employed by Cook County Sheriff’s Dept. at Markham Circuit Court and was a security guard at Hirsch Funeral Homes, West End Chapel. WWII Army Veteran, serving in Normandy and Northern France and received the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, five Overseas Service Bars and Good Conduct Medal.
