The article “Heroin gains testing Kane’s rehab court” (Metro, Aug. 9) contains the following sentence: “With the costs of storing one addicted, untreated inmate in prison for one year running at about $23,500 annually. . . . ” It is not clear whether the word “stored” represented the views of the author of the article or someone else but it is regrettable that anyone would think a person’s life is being “stored.” Addicts and prisoners deserve to be treated with basic human dignity.
