The Geneva portion of the Tri-City Broadband Citizen Survey indicated that nearly 80 percent of the survey participants have cable television and Internet access in their homes, and 73 percent are interested in a package that would include cable TV, high-speed Internet access and phone service with a single connection and one bill.
Nearly half of the citizens surveyed responded, officials said.
The city is applying for a $36,000 Kane County grant to conduct a feasibility study on extending the institutional fiber optic network to Geneva’s business parks and residential neighborhoods.
Aldermen also approved a cable communications ordinance Monday containing upgraded standards for customer service response and right-of-way use by cable companies.
The city recently extended the AT&T franchise to July 1, but the ordinance does not preclude any other company from providing cable services in the city.
