– Apparently, the world is divided into two kinds of people: Those who drive the Jeep Liberty Sport and those who drive the Jeep Liberty Limited. At least that’s what the Liberty Web site would have you believe. Jeep has devised a 15-question personality test (www.jeepunpaved.com/liberty/liberty.html; roll over the “freedom” popup) to tell potential customers what Liberty is right for them. Though mostly a marketing tool, the page also links to other Web sites according to answers given.
– Ford and Navistar have completed plans to build Class 6 and 7 medium commercial trucks, the kind used for delivering groceries or as do-it-yourself moving trucks. Blue Diamond Truck Co. will begin building the trucks late next year in Escobedo, Mexico. Ford hopes to sell 25,000 copies a year and Navistar has targeted 10,000.
– Goodyear will be the sole supplier of tires to the U.S. Postal Service for the next 10 years under a $115 million deal. The agency now buys tires from Goodyear, Bridgestone-Firestone and Michelin for its more than 200,000 trucks, vans and delivery vehicles. The Postal Service is expected to buy about 235,000 tires under the agreement, which begins in October.
