Virginia B. Freeman, 94, an artist in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood, died Sunday, Sept. 2, in Evergreen Health Care Center in Evergreen Park of complications following a stroke. Raised on Chicago’s South Side, Mrs. Freeman attended the Art Institute of Chicago. Mrs. Freeman, a watercolorist, would drive around the city looking for inspiration in parks and the lake. She was married to Roy Freeman, a former Chicago Tribune executive. After Mr. Freeman died in 1967, she took a job at the Beverly Hills Gallery, restoring paintings, selling art on the gallery floor and handling custom framing orders. She worked at the gallery for 30 years, until she had a stroke this spring. “People would ask specifically for her,” said gallery owner Otto Kaiserauer. She lived in the Beverly neighborhood for 67 years. Services were held Friday in Morgan Park Presbyterian Church.
