The Mt. Prospect Safety Commission has recommended parking restrictions along residential streets around Prospect High School.
The move aims to discourage students from parking on those streets and interfering with public services such as leaf pickup and street cleaning.
The proposal will be presented to the Village Board on Tuesday. However, no-parking signs for designated hours have already been posted on Fairview Street, Prospect Manor Avenue, Memory Lane and Highland Avenue.
“Something had to be done do get those cars off of the street,” said Matt Lawrie, a project engineer with the village.
Residents brought the issue to the Village Board last month.
Lawrie said the parking bans are considered a temporary remedy, which might shift the parking burden to other streets. The long-term solution, in the view of residents and the commission, is for Prospect High School to provide adequate parking on campus.
Lawrie said the high school plans to create additional parking, but not for several years.
Parking would be prohibited from 10 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. along Fairview and Prospect Manor, between Memory Lane and Kensington Road; on Memory Lane, between Forest Avenue and Prospect Manor; and on Highland, between Fairview and Eastwood Avenue.
