AURORA — I read, with some irritation, the negative coverage of the recent Chicago Jazz Festival.

There were a few shining moments, especially on Saturday afternoon with a great performance by the Salty Dogs, a great traditional jazz group. These men are highly trained musicians who wowed the crowd.

The Dogs have been together for over 50 years and continually “play the history” of traditional jazz. They also performed with jazz legend Franz Jackson, who, at 88, still has style!

I was glad for the Jazz on Jackson and was looking for better coverage of the event, especially for the smaller venues. Great work, Chicago Jazz Fest organizers.
