I am dismayed by those who have pointed fingers at the nation’s airline security people and suggested that lower-wage people do not do a good job.
I have been through hundreds of airports and have found these individuals to be as diligent in their duties as any other employee.
From the accounts that I have seen, these employees did their jobs. The terrorists succeeded without guns or explosives but with nerve, small knives, exceptional coordination and many people.
Airline security people are not to blame. It is our nation’s intelligence community that failed all Americans on that fateful Sept. 11. If our airlines were impenetrable, they would have simply targeted any number of other equally devastating targets. Acts of this magnitude cannot be defended; they must be prevented.
