Haverford Place, an active-adult housing development planned for the western part of Hoffman Estates, received preliminary approval from the Village Board.

Developers Ryland Homes and Shoe Factory Road sought trustees’ support for the preliminary site plan for 184 single-family homes and a 7-acre commons with tennis courts, walking paths, a pool and clubhouse.

The one-story homes of 1,800 to 2,100 square feet would cost $200,000 to $250,000.

Ryland would prohibit anyone under age 18 from becoming permanent residents of the community.

Haverford Place would be built on University Park land on the north side of Shoe Factory Road and west of Beverly Road.

When the village annexed about 325 University Park properties in 1999, it designated about 110 of them for an adult housing development.

In other business, trustees amended an annexation agreement for the Kelley Farm property, allowing plans to proceed for a Fox Valley-area School District 46 elementary school on one site.
