Do Americans today realize what war is?

I was alive during the Vietnam War, but I was too young to remember it.

I, like most Americans, have seen countless hours of documentaries and movies about it. I have an idea of what war is like, but I have a better idea of why we fight them.

We are about to embark on a sustained campaign that is long overdue.

We must eradicate terrorist activities globally to ensure a continuing democratic way of life, not only in America but for all who embrace it.

I am not a veteran and have no military background, but I know that this sustained campaign will not be the clean, surgically precise activities we witnessed during the Persian Gulf War. It will cost many lives to defend freedom, and we must accept this and fully commit.

If we don’t, we run a real risk of allowing terror to rule every aspect of the “American way of life.”

I say to those people who do not fully support a total annihilation of terrorism–remember that were it not for our democratic ideals that we are defending, you would not be allowed a forum with which you may freely voice your opposition to war.
