The Children’s Service Board of Children’s Memorial Hospital held its 46th Annual Gold Coast Fashion Award Show last Thursday at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
The event features new designers who compete for the prestigious fashion award that has launched the careers of many of today’s leading designers, including Donna Karan, Anne Klein and Bill Blass.
This year’s gala event and fashion competition featured eight new designers — KathlinArgiro, David Cardona, Kathyrn Dianos, Mark Kroeker, William Reid, Shalini, Peter Som and the eventual award-winner — Edward Wilkerson.
Last year’s winner, Heidi Weisel, is one of the most sought-after designers in New York, having launched her own line, which is available at major retailers.
Just two days after the devastating terrorist attacks, more than 1,200 patrons turned out to make the show a huge success.
The show featured a cocktail reception that unveiled jewelry designer Steven Lagos’ Heart of Chicago collection that includes pendants, earrings, key chains and cuff links.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Lagos’ collection benefit the Children’s Service Board.
The collection is now available for purchase at Neiman Marcus.
A luncheon followed that included the fashion presentation, featuring designs by Weisel and this year’s contestants.
Tickets were $100 and proceeds of approximately $300,000 will benefit the cardiology division of Children’s Memorial Hospital.
Amanda Prizant and Karen Essig chaired the event that was sponsored by La Salle Bank.
