With Mayor Catherine Melchert casting a tie-breaking vote, Bartlett trustees Tuesday formally agreed to name the village’s new sports complex the Glen A. Koehler Fields of Bartlett. The facility is located on Illinois Highway 25, south of West Bartlett Road.
Officials have debated a formal title for the facility for months, and even on Tuesday couldn’t decide, forcing Melchert to untie a 3-3 vote.
Trustees Michael Bersani, Steve Miller and Dennis Nolan all expressed concerns about the name showcasing an individual, rather than the village. Concerns were also raised as to whether naming the complex after an individual would slight other residents who have made similar contributions.
But Trustee Michael Airdo argued that keeping both the village’s name and its one-time village president, a baseball fan, in the title would honor both.
