A week after the terrorist attacks, we had a meeting at work. My employer, Joe Tummillo of Pro-Tech Metal Specialties in Elmhurst, wanted to talk about the events of Sept. 11.
After laying out what may be the future for his company, Joe asked us to do something. “Us” comes to about 30 people employed at Pro-Tech. Joe told us to go spend $100. He told us to buy anything except food or drink. He asked that we buy merchandise only made in the U.S. and said this is how he is going to help America overcome its tragedy.
Joe is going to reimburse every employee who brings in a receipt of up to $100. He wants to help keep those people in the companies that make the products we buy employed. He wants to keep the economy going. Personally and out of his own pocket.
More business owners should be like my boss.
