William Brincka, 74, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of Chicago, died Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center, Michigan City, IN, U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, beloved life partner of Basil Cross for over 50 years; also surviving Mr. Brincka are the numerous students and pupils he taught for over 36 years; preceded in death by his parents William and Anna, nee Wadowski, Brincka. Funeral services are set for Sunday, September 30, 2001 at 4 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, Indiana. Former Professor of Sculpture and Design at the School of Art Institute of Chicago from 1956 until 1992 where he had been a student from 1933 through 1956. Mr. Brincka was a highly productive and admired artist in many mediums. Also and avid world traveller whose interests took him to New Guinea, the Darien Jungle, Capetown, to Cairo, China and the Amazon. An avid gardner, he was a successful plant hybridizer and was known throughout the United States and Europe. His incredible knowledge of plant material combined with his artistic sense of design made him an outstanding landscape designer. A native of Chicago, he made his home in the Furnessville area of the Indiana Dunes for 40 years.
