America is often accused of arrogance, even by our allies and friends. I think some of them heard that in the president’s ultimatum.

Some of those nations are concerned about the form that our response will take. They understand our grief, see our anger and share our resolve. I believe many are also nervous about our response. If a coalition of such nations is part of our goal, I wish the president had taken the opportunity to speak directly to these concerns by assuring our friends, and us, that we will not attack indiscriminately. We will not wipe out entire nations of peaceful peoples. That is the way of the terrorist, not ours.

Perhaps this nervousness on the part of our friends could be lessened with the assurance that we have heard their statements and share their concern.
