Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Don’t ask us to fly. Not yet. It is not our patriotic duty to rescue the airline industry, Disneyland or even the stock market. We need not deny that the terrorist attack has sent us reeling, at least briefly, from shock.

Recovery, going back to “normal,” means sleeping soundly, regaining our appetites and losing the hollowness around our hearts. We are resuming our routines, at work and school and in our homes with family. That is remarkable, in the aftermath of such trauma.

We will fly later, perhaps when the new safeguards are in place. We’ll fly when we are ready. Don’t rush us. The exhortations seem callous.
