The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded its investigation of 1.8 million 1993 to 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees on complaints of “inadvertent rollaway in reverse.” NHTSA has received 865 reports of the condition, in which drivers put the vehicle in park but reverse engages, so the vehicle can move. NHTSA is conducting an engineering analysis, the step before a potential recall.
