Edwin Pizer, 89, of the North Side, a partner for about 35 years at the law firm of Marovitz, Powell, Pizer and Edelstein, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in St. Joseph Hospital of a stroke. Born and raised on Chicago’s West Side, he earned his undergraduate and law degrees from DePaul University in four years and was admitted to the bar in 1937. The following year, he married his wife Estyr, who died in 1979. Mr. Pizer left his individual practice in the early 1950s to help found the law firm of Marovitz, Powell and Pizer, where he specialized in real estate transactions. He formally retired around the age of 80. “He was very aggressive on behalf of his clients. He took care of their positions and pushed in a very aggressive and strong way,” said his son Howard. In addition to his son, he is survived by two daughters, Toby Herr and Sydney Lewy; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will begin at noon Friday at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W. Montrose Ave., Chicago.
