– DaimlerChrysler AG’s Smart subsidiary says it expects to decide by mid-2002 whether to bring the two-seat subcompact car to the U.S. The company says it is assessing the car’s chances in the U.S. The Smart went on sale across Europe in 1999. The car, which takes up about half a standard parking spot, has mix-and-match, brightly colored replaceable parts and an all-plastic body aimed at youth.
– DaimlerChrysler Vans will begin distributing a commercial van called the Sprinter under the Freightliner brand. The van is made in Germany and is powered by a Mercedes-Benz 5-cylinder diesel engine.
