Chantelle Anderson scored all of her 22 points in the second half as No. 8 Vanderbilt rallied from an 11-point deficit to upset second-ranked Tennessee 76-59 Saturday night.
The victory ended a nine-game home losing streak for the Commodores (20-5, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) against the Vols and snapped Tennessee’s seven-game winning streak.
Vanderbilt hadn’t beaten Tennessee (18-2, 7-1) in Memorial Gym since Dec. 6, 1990, a year before coach Jim Foster took over the program.
Foster picked up only his third victory over the six-time national champions, who have dominated this series by winning 36 of the first 41 games.
Jillian Danker had 19 points for Vanderbilt. Zuzi Klimesova added 15 and Ashley McElhiney 13.
Reserve April McDivitt led Tennessee with 13 points. Kara Lawson had 11, and Michelle Snow 10.
N. Illinois 63, Akron 42: Kristan Knake scored 15 points as the visiting Huskies (12-9, 7-3 Mid-American Conference) beat the Zips (1-20, 0-10) to give coach Carol Hammerle her 500th career victory.
“It’s definitely a good feeling to reach 500 wins,” said Hammerle, who joined 19 other Division I coaches in reaching that milestone.
Hammerle, who spent 25 of her 29 seasons at Wisconsin-Green Bay before taking over the NIU program in 1998, said the only disappointment was “we couldn’t do this at home in front of our fans so they could be a part of it.”
Stanford 79, California 51: Nicole Powell had 16 points and nine rebounds as the No. 3 Cardinal (22-1, 12-0) rolled to its 14th straight win and remained unbeaten in the Pac-10 by beating the host Golden Bears (6-15, 1-11).
Oklahoma 79, Kansas 57: Caton Hill scored 21 points and Stacey Dales added 18 to lead the fourth-ranked Sooners (18-2, 8-1) to the Big 12 victory over the visiting Jayhawks (5-18, 0-10).
Duke 66, Maryland 55: Alana Beard scored 19 points to help the fifth-ranked Blue Devils (19-3, 11-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) overcome a sluggish start and beat the host Terrapins (10-12, 3-8) for their 10th straight win.
La. Tech 78, Boise St. 39: Ayana Walker had 16 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 6 Lady Techsters (16-3, 11-0 Western Athletic Conference) ran its winning streak to 15 games by beating the host Broncos (6-15, 2-9).
Baylor 80, Oklahoma St. 62: Sheila Lambert had 24 points and 10 assists and the No. 10 Lady Bears (18-3, 6-3) achieved their first five-game winning streak in the Big 12 by beating the visiting Cowgirls (11-11, 3-6).
Tari Cummings led Oklahoma State (11-11, 3-6) with 14 points.
Iowa St. 86, Kansas St. 72: Lindsey Wilson scored 25 points and Tracy Gahan (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Angie Welle (20 points, 14 rebounds) had double-doubles for the No. 15 Cyclones (17-5, 5-5) in the Big 12 win over the No. 9 Wildcats (20-3, 8-2) at Manhattan, Kan.
Texas A&M 70, Texas 65: Toccara Williams scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half, including a go-ahead jumper, as the host Aggies (11-10, 3-6) dealt the No. 14 Longhorns (14-6, 6-4) their third straight Big 12 loss.
Colorado St. 63, Air Force 55: Angie Gorton had 17 points, including three key baskets for the No. 18 Rams (17-4, 6-1 Mountain West) that cooled a late rally by the host Falcons (4-16, 0-7).
Boston College 75, Georgetown 62: Clare Droesch scored eight of her career-high 25 points in the final 6 1/2 minutes to lead the No. 20 Eagles (17-5, 8-3 Big East) over the visiting Hoyas (11-10, 3-7).
Notre Dame 65, Seton Hall 60: Jacqueline Batteast had 21 points and 12 rebounds after coming off the bench as the visiting Fighting Irish (13-7, 7-2 Big East) rallied in the second half to beat the Pirates (11-10, 3-7).
Wis.-Green Bay 66, UIC 52: Mandy Stowe scored 26 points to lead the visiting Phoenix (16-5, 10-0 Horizon League) past the Flames (11-12, 3-8).
Valparaiso 61, W. Illinois 59: Jeanette Gray scored 17 points as the Crusaders (16-5, 6-1 Mid-Continent Conference) held off the visiting Westerwinds (10-11, 2-6).
Stiles jersey retired: The No. 10 jersey Jackie Stiles made famous while becoming the leading scorer in NCAA women’s college basketball history was retired by Southwest Missouri State on Saturday night.
