Deion Sanders has made the transition from baseball to football to CBS Sports analyst. Now Prime Time will get prime-time exposure as CBS’ host for the Miss USA pageant March 1 from Gary’s Genesis Convention Center.
Donald Thompson, pageant coordinator for Gary, said he hopes Sanders will help boost ticket sales.
Sanders, who played 13 season in the NFL before retiring, replaces William Shatner, last year’s pageant host.
The O’Greatest?
Irish researchers said they have found that Muhammad Ali has Irish roots in County Clare, Ireland.
“We would like to honor Ali as one of the heroes of the 20th Century and invite him here,” said Michael Corley, a council leader in the village of Ennis where, genealogists say, a great-grandfather of Ali was born 160 years ago.
“Through research being carried out for the Irish-language TV station TG4 on Ali, we established that Ali’s great-great grandfather, John Grady, rented a house and a small garden in Ennis … in 1855,” said genealogist Antoinette O’Brien.
“There is no doubt that Abe Grady [John’s son] was Ali’s great-grandfather.”
Thanks a lot
As Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins basked in the glow of New England’s Super Bowl victory, there was grim news for his mother–she was laid off from her state job days before the game.
Fifteen years ago, Doreen Wiggins worked her way off welfare to eventually become a state social worker for the Department of Transitional Assistance.
“I wanted to be a good role model for my son, I wanted a good job and I love this job,” Doreen Wiggins told the Boston Herald. “I just got a raise, I felt great … now I’m laid off.”
Say what?
