Kathryn Violet Stewart, nee DeYoung, 94, a long time resident of the south side of Chicago, died in Kaneohe, Hawaii on December 14, 2001. She was the widow of James F. Stewart “Scotty”. They were a popular couple and seen often at many social events in the Roseland Community. Kitty, as she was known, was very active in the Roseland Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron of the Palace Chapter. She was an excellent athlete participating in many sports, including baseball, basketball, ice skating and golf. She played on the Roseland Presbyterian Church, Fenger High School and Palmer Park teams among other south side teams. She was an avid card player and belonged to many clubs. She loved to dance. Mrs. Stewart retired from Standard and Poor’s as a department manager in 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart retired to Lakeview, Arkansa in 1971, where she was an active member in the Presbyterian Church of Bull Shoals and Twin Lakes Shriner’s Ladies. She bowled until age 90. A gala party was held on her 90th birthday in 1997 at the Lansing Country Club, Lansing, Illinois. A wonderful time was had by all. Prior to moving to Kaneohe she resided in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her older brother Gerritt (Frances) DeYoung; children James F. (Susan Beth) Stewart Jr., of Lonetree, Colorado, Judith M. (David) Jackson, of South Holland, Illinois, Nancy (Mel) Kalagian, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Thomas G. (Schyler) Stewart of Kaneohe, Hawaii; she is also survived by nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends on February 16, 2002 at Drumm Funeral Home, 1200 E. 162 St. (1 blk W. of the Calumet Xway on U.S. Hwy 6/159th St.) South Holland, from noon until 1 p.m. Memorial Service.
