Jeffrey Davis, 45, a mechanic and a skillful wood craftsman, died in his home in Wheaton on Tuesday, Feb.12, of cancer. “He always liked to work with his hands. He loved woodworking and if I just mentioned that I thought something would be nice to have, I would come home from work and he would be in the garage making it for me,” said his wife, Lilian. Mr. Davis was born in Chicago, raised in Northlake and graduated from West Leyden High School. He was always fixing the cars of neighbors, friends and family, said his brother Michael. That led to a mechanics career that started at Al Piemonte Ford in Melrose Park and most recently as a service adviser at Packey-Webb Ford in Wheaton. Family members said he was a creative man who made his kitchen cabinets as well as furniture. Mr. Davis also loved the outdoors and fishing. “He longed for the annual fishing trip to Wisconsin. He lived for that every year,” she said. Mr. Davis is also survived by his two children, Jason and Kellie; parents, Joseph and Shirley; and sisters, Joanne Battista and Chris Baer. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Services will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday.
