Thomas S. Babb, age 40, of Beverly Shores, passed away Thursday after a long and exhaustive battle with a rare form of brain cancer. While Tom could have taken the easy way out, he stood strong and persistent against all odds. With the utmost courage and no regard for his own pain, Tom sacrificed himself in a gallant attempt to avoid leaving his wife and young son alone. Tom will be horribly missed by all who knew him as he was one of those rare individuals who never hesitated to go the extra mile in the love of his family, for his friends and with his business. Tom was a real gentleman in all aspects of his personal and professional life. He was as hard working and as dedicated as it gets. The world has lost one of its true every day heroes. Tom graduated from Purdue Lafayette in 1983 and went on to a successful career with Deloitte & Touche where he eventually became a partner. He is survived by his wife Sharon, nee Hughes; seven year old son Austin; his parents Jerrell and Judith Babb; brother Steven Babb and his wife Christa; along with many nieces and nephews. Tom had a unique gift for bringing laughter, humor and a great time wherever he went. In an attempt to honor Tom’s good natured spirit, his family welcomes everyone to a casual, come as you are, memorial reception featuring food, drink and music this Sunday, Feb. 17 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, IN. A religious service will be held in Long Grove near Tom’s parent’s home next week. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting contributions to the newly established Thomas Scott Babb Memorial Scholarship Fund which will provide financial assistance to young professionals who demonstrate Tom’s level of commitment to family, friendship and work. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 923, Beverly Shores, IN 46301-0923. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 219-872-7291 .www.otthaverstock.com.
