I truly hope Bob Verdi was speaking with tongue in cheek. In my 70-plus years I have been to Stanley Cup finals, World Series (Cubs vs. Tigers), Final Fours, Super Bowls, Kentucky Derbies, NBA playoffs and Daytona 500s and have been thrilled at most of them. But I always look forward the most to the Olympic Games.

Watching athletes from around the world who have been training for years for a shot at a gold medal tops them all for me. The variety of events for both individuals and teams can’t be found anywhere else in sports. I enjoy Verdi’s column, but if he really meant what he wrote, then sour grapes will surely burn his tongue.
