I just want to thank all the American people for their attention and empathy toward the Canadian figure skating pair of Jamie Sale and David Pelletier and their plight.
I truly believe, without a doubt, that it was the persistent attention and outrage by the general American public that brought about the overturning of the improper judgment.
We as Canadians always knew we had the best neighbors in the world.
We always stood side-by-side on big things like world events and our place in them.
But when the American people stood up for our skating pair, it was a neighborly feeling of pride that the common folk could associate with.
I think I can speak for all Canadians in saying this:
We’ve never felt more understood and acknowledged by our American kin than now.
We really want to thank all our American friends.
And we hope the world pays close attention to what being the best of neighbors really means.
