Harold M. Schumann, 80, of Elgin, a retired production employee of Illinois Tool Works in Elgin, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Sherman Hospital in Elgin of injuries sustained during a fall in his home. Mr. Schumann served four years in the Army during World War II. and was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured by a grenade. Mr. Schumann worked 44 years at Illinois Tools Works, a manufacturer of screws and rivets. He worked in production control and was responsible for overseeing contract orders. He retired in 1987. “He always wanted to be independent,” said his son Scott, who added his father didn’t like to accept help but “he was always the guy who would help you.” Other survivors include his wife of 51 years, Velma; a daughter, Pamela Keisler; three more sons, Michael, Jeffrey and Timmy; a sister, Violet Goodrich; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin.
