Aurora “Laurie” Soruika, 93, an 11 year resident of Presbyterian Homes, Evanston, IL, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, made her home in Park Ridge for 35 years. Miss Soruika was born in Chicago, IL on August 18, 1908 to Katarina Bernau Soruika and Emil Soruika. She grew up on Chicago’s northside and did secretarial work since the Depression, retiring from Aetna Insurance Company (now CIGNA) in Park Ridge as a secretary and statistical typist after a 17 year career in 1971. For 15 years, Miss Soruika also worked for Lullaby Babysitting service until 1984. Active in church all her life, she had been a member of the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, and formerly a member of Berry Memorial and Park Ridge Methodist churches. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in Elliott Chapel of Presbyterian Homes, 3131 Simpson St., (Golf Road), Evanston, IL, with the Rev. Nina G. Fockens officiating. Private interment will be at Montrose Cemetery, Chicago. Memorials to The Presbyterian Homes, Heart and Cancer Societies. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Elaine G. Soruika, formerly of Park Ridge and now Presbyterian Homes; niece, Georgia S. Evans, Chicago; brother-in-law Eugene H. Clark; nephew Donald G. Clark and family, formerly of Des Plaines and now Espanola, NM; cousins M. Carol Bernau, Chicago and Annette B. Lindeman of California. She is preceded in death by her brother, Sam E. Soruika; nephew Douglas E. Soruika; and sister, Olivia “Lee” Clark.
