The fine for general parking violations has been doubled to $20 in the village, which has not raised parking fines since 1979.
Village leaders believe the increase may eliminate some overnight parking, sidewalk and unpaved surface violations, Police Chief Ronald Moser said.
A minor parking fine will jump to $40 if it isn’t paid within 10 days and to $100 if a court date and collection agency are involved.
Rental residential licensing fees were also doubled to $50. This fee is intended to cover the cost of the village’s Rental Residential Program that includes annual property inspections. Another $50 will be charged for follow-up inspections.
The penalty for not pursuing a license at all increased from $50 to $100. A full-time supervisor was added last year to improve the performance of the Police Department’s code enforcement division.
In other business, the village approved hiring theMercer Group, a Colorado executive search firm, to find a replacement for Fire Chief Richard Parker.
Parker, 65, recently announced he will retire after a 40-year career in firefighting. Parker became fire chief of the Hanover Park Fire Protection District in January 2000, six months before its operations merged with village services to become the Hanover Park Fire Department. Parker has yet to give a date for his departure.
The recruitment process is expected to take up to three months.
