Schaumburg trustees have added provisions to the zoning code to allow fortune-telling businesses to operate in the general business district. The establishments previously were not permitted.
The owner of New Age Metaphysics on Algonquin Road sued the village last year claiming it had violated his 1st Amendment rights when code enforcement officers tried to shut downthe business.
That suit was dropped in exchange for the code revisions.
Individuals who want to operate fortune-telling establishments must receive a special-use permit and submit to a background check. Hours are limited to between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
