This stately 13-room house at 46 Scott Loop on the grounds of the former Ft. Sheridan in Highland Park is one of 38 neo-Romanesque officer homes that have been sold to private owners and developers since the closing of the lakeside military base in 1993. HISTORY LESSON: The three-story home, built in 1896, is one of 66 buildings designed by the Chicago firm of Holabird & Roche for the base. Amenities: More than a half-dozen of the home’s original solid-core, five-panel, 7-foot-tall interior doors have been restored and rehung. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely renovated, and the master bath has a feature the previous military occupants of the home never had: a whirlpool.
