Regarding Stan Tiner’s views on the Charles Pickering court nomination, I hear the same old reasoning that makes the U.S. what it is–a society built around racial intolerance. Americans traditionally play the high-morality game until the evidence is presented to refute the claim. Then they say, “nobody’s perfect.”
The views of Tiner still have a huge following today. These are people who seek to embrace the benefits of high morality without making a commitment to it.
Pickering may not be the Prince of Darkness, but in the area of social understanding, he is seriously flawed.
