As a lifelong liberal, unshakable Catholic, educated by nuns (in Chicago) from age 2 in a then-called “day nursery” through high school, a proud feminist and almost 68-year-old, I keep asking how archbishops, cardinals and even our pope justify aiding and abetting pedophiles for only God knows how many decades. In fact, I have never heard of any justification.

Apologies and money to victims will never be enough. Where are their apologies and justification to all Catholics for disgracing our religion and shaking our faith?

My church couldn’t pay me enough to attend a mass said by Cardinal Bernard Law or any other assenters (“Boston archdiocese near settlement; Church may pay up to $30 million in sex abuse cases,” News, March 6). How dare he refuse to resign. It clearly shows that this horrifying revelation doesn’t affect his indescribable arrogance.

I will never be ashamed for my faith, but I sure am ashamed for and embarrassed by these enablers still running my church.
