Wisconsin will miss out on more than $600,000 in federal money for a seniors’ nutrition program because of a clerical error, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday.
The 2002 grants for the program already have been awarded, said Jean Daniel, a spokeswoman for the department’s food and nutrition program.
Wisconsin missed the deadline because of a wrong digit in a ZIP code on its application.
The application was for about twice the money the state received last year for the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, which served 4,000 seniors as a pilot program.
The goal was to help seniors improve their diets with fresh produce while giving Wisconsin farmers more business.
