To help celebrate its centennial next year, Buick will bring back portholes on its 2003 Park Avenue Ultra this fall, a design icon first used in 1949, last offered in 1983 on the Electra and showcased on the 1999 Cielo, 2000 LaCrosse and 2001 Bengal concepts to test interest in its return.
The Park Avenue Ultra is the second model to be introduced for Buick’s centennial year. The 2003 LeSabre Celebration Edition was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show in February.
In addition to three chrome-plated portholes on each side of the front fenders, originally called ventiports because they helped cool the engine compartment as well as add a distinctive cue to Buick, the ’03 Park Avenue Ultra includes a vertical-bar grille from the LaCrosse concept.
