A fire early Thursday caused $300,000 in damage to a ranch home in the 900 block of North Franklin Avenue, officials said. The homeowner woke up about 4 a.m. after a smoke detector went off and fled the smoke-filled house, officials said. A space heater in a greenhouse may have caused the fire, officials said.
