The Tribune editorial cartoon for April 7 was racist. While suicide bombings are indeed a horrible problem in the Middle East, there are millions of Arabs who deplore such behavior.
The figure of the female bomber was an odd combination of Western sexiness and ultraconservative Muslim veiling. The figure’s full veil and shifty eyes support a stereotype of Arabs as sinister.
I am dismayed at the Tribune’s use of such a cheap shot when so much tragedy is unfolding on both sides in this conflict.
