Michael W. Witowski, 59, a director of special projects for Metra who also ran a popular interior design business from his home near DePaul University, died of a heart attack Monday, April 22, in his home. Mr. Witowski grew up on the Northwest Side, attended high school at DePaul Academy and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in economics in 1965. While at DePaul, Mr. Witowski played for the basketball team. After graduating, he stayed near DePaul, taking a job with the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad. When the line closed, Mr. Witowski worked for Amtrak for 13 years and later worked for the RTA. He worked at Metra for 14 years. His true love was interior design, however, and for many years he decorated homes and lofts around Lincoln Park in an Art Deco style. Mr. Witowski was well known in Lincoln Park, a neighborhood he always cherished. He is survived by his mother, Helen; his brother, Patrick; his sister, Claudia Webb, and his longtime companion, Judith Miller. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Grein Funeral Directors, 2114 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago.
