Davey Johnson, who retired from baseball last fall 11 months after being fired from his last job as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, returned to his hometown of Winter Park, Fla., and found himself teaching a course at nearby Rollins College,
The course, “Teaching Baseball,” concluded earlier this week with a 42-question final exam.
“It’s a challenge,” said Johnson, who was part of two World Series championship teams as a player in Baltimore and another as a manager of the New York Mets.
“Let’s face it. Ten million people aren’t watching to see if you win or lose here,” Johnson added.
“But there’s less stress, the travel is much better–driving five minutes to class, instead flying halfway across the country–and it’s been a lot of fun.”
Real incentive
Prisoners with records of good behavior in Thailand will be permitted to watch televised World Cup matches.
“Allowing model inmates to watch live broadcasts is one measure to make them relax and decrease stress,” said Arthit Phonthong, deputy director general of the Corrections Department.
