In “Reporters and the Catholic Church” (Commentary, April 28), Carol Marin argued that being a reporter and being Catholic shouldn’t prevent a person from reporting problems within the Catholic Church. Fair enough.
Being a good reporter, however, also means giving the whole picture and trying to put news in its proper perspective. Since the vast majority of priests lead a life that includes a long day of service to God and others without any scandal, good reporting should produce a lot more articles about good priests.
I would like to suggest profiling a random priest periodically. I think this would give a more accurate picture of the Catholic priesthood and would be good journalism.
