Virginia “Jinny” L. Egan, 73, of Sandwich died of heart failure Sunday, May 5, at HCR ManorCare Nursing Home in Naperville. Mrs. Egan, who was born in Geneva, grew up in Batavia and spent most of her years raising a family there. She later moved to St. Charles and then Oswego, finally settling in Sandwich to live with her daughter’s family. She worked as a secretary for the Kane County Courthouse in the treasurer’s office, Fermilab and the Public Building Commission during the time the new courthouse was being built. She retired in 1996 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease the following year. Family members said Mrs. Egan enjoyed visiting friends and relatives and being able to help others. Known for her contagious laughter and generous spirit, she also had a great love for animals and regularly visited animal shelters. Survivors include three sons, Craig and Scott Stubbs and Boyd Egan; three daughters, Susan Loberg, Kim Olson and Beth Johnson; a sister, Molly Hubbard; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services have been held.
