Michael P. Hryn, 64, founder and owner of a Chicago homebuilding company that constructed hundreds of south suburban residences, died of cancer Monday, May 13, in his Orland Park home. Born in Chicago, Mr. Hryn left high school to work in his father’s construction company before launching his own concrete construction business. “He started with a little red truck working side jobs,” said Virginia A. Hryn, his wife of 43 years. “All of a sudden, business became so good that we had to buy a bigger truck.” When one customer paid Mr. Hryn with two corner lots in Frankfort, he built homes on the land and sold them, creating his second business, Hryn Development Inc. Business boomed and later included the development of subdivisions in Orland Park, Matteson, Frankfort and Tinley Park, his wife said. He was the past president of several state homebuilding associations as well as a life director with the National Association of Homebuilders. Mr. Hryn never retired and enjoyed golfing several times a week. In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Danielle Kennedy, Donna Kudra and Denise Hryn; a son, Michael; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m., Thursday in Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St., Orland Park. Mass will said 10 a.m. Friday in St. Alexander Catholic Church, 7025 W. 126th St., Palos Heights.
